There are several Christmas tree farms only 30-40 minutes from Asheville but they feel like a different world. It’s a great way to shop local, enjoy an adventure and get in the Christmas spirit!

The best time to get a Christmas tree in Asheville is either right around Thanksgiving. This is when the farms open for the season and have the best selection. For the 2025 season, some open the week before Thanksgiving and others the day after.

Most of the trees you’ll find at Choose & Cut Christmas tree farms near Asheville are Fraser firs. This type of tree flourishes in the southern Appalachians above 3000 feet.

Boyd Mountain Christmas Tree Farm

Boyd Mountain Christmas Tree Farm is an excellent place to get a tree near Asheville. It’s located in Waynesville, NC, about 40 minutes (35 miles) from downtown Asheville.

Not only are the rows of Christmas trees at Boyd Mountain Farms beautiful, but the land all around it is gorgeous. There are mountain views, a small stream and even a large pond with rocking chairs to sit and enjoy the view. Plus, they even host Santa for a few days!

Apart from that, there are several gorgeous properties that are available to rent! This would be such a magic place to stay during a snowy weekend.

About Boyd Mountain Christmas Tree Farm

Location: Boyd Mountain’s Choose and Cut farm is located at 445 Boyd Farm Road in Waynesville.

Dates: The choose and cut portion of the farm opens November 20, 2025. They are open November 20 through December 13, but are closed on November 24 and December 1 and December 8. Their Santa dates are November 22 – 23, and November 28 – 30.

Other info: You can catch Santa at the farm November 22 – 23, and November 28 – 30. There will also be a food truck on-site, as well as wreaths and a gift shop.

Mehaffey Tree Farm

For over 40 years, the Mehaffey family has been dedicated to growing and providing premium Christmas trees. Their commitment to sustainable forestry practices ensures a healthy environment for future generations.

Mehaffey Tree Farm is located in Waynesville, NC, just a 40-minute drive from Asheville. During the holiday season, the farm opens its gates to visitors, inviting them to select their perfect Christmas tree from a variety of sizes and shapes.

They’ll send you out on the farm with a pole to measure your Christmas tree, and will help you cut it once you find the perfect one. You can also cut it if you prefer. After that, they’ll drive it away and get the tree prepped for you to take home.

About Mehaffey Tree Farm

Location: 24 Corner Drive | Waynesville, NC

Dates: Mehaffey Tree Farm opens for the season on November 15, 2025. They are open from 9am-5pm on November 15 – 16, 20 – 23 and 27 – 30, and December 6 – 7 and 13 – 14.

Other info: Leashed dogs are allowed. Hot chocolate and apple cider are available at the checkout booth. Trees start at $100 (5-6”) and go up to $250 for a 9-10′ Christmas tree.

Sandy Hollar Farms

Sandy Hollar Farms is another great family-owned Christmas tree farm near Asheville. This one is in Leicester, which is about a 35-minute drive from downtown Asheville.

Not only will you find exceptional Christmas trees (8 feet and under), handmade Christmas wreaths and beautiful views, but you can also take a wagon ride to pick out your tree.

About Sandy Hollar Farms

Location: 63 Sandy Hollar Lane | Leicester, NC

Dates: They are open November 22 – 23, November 27 – 30, December 6 – 7, and December 13 – 14, 2025. Their hours are 9am to 4pm each day.

Other info: Christmas trees up to 8′ tall will be available for Choose & Cut. You can also enjoy hayrides and shop for fresh wreaths, garland and other gifts.

Chimney Pond Farm

Chimney Pond Farm is a bit of a haul from Asheville (around 1 hour and 30 minutes), but it is such a magical spot that we wanted to include it in our roundup. It was previously known as Tom Sawyer’s Christmas Tree Farm and Elf Village.

This is where we plan to get our tree from this year– and it’s where we went in 2024, too!

Chimney Pond Farm is located in Glenville near Cashiers. It’s a great option if you have kids around age 10 or so who wouldn’t mind a longer drive from Asheville for a fun experience.

They’ll start selling trees the day before Thanksgiving (November 27). Though they plan to stay open until December 8, they often sell out early and will not have trees toward the end of the season.

Prices for Christmas trees last year started at $90 for 3-4 feet, $171 for 7-8 feet and up to $458 for 12-13 feet.

Dates: Chimney Pond Farm hasn’t announced their 2025 dates yet!

Jeter Mountain Farm

Jeter Mountain Farm is holding its second Christmas season the farm.

They’ll have a fire, warm beverages, bakeries goodies and even carol singing. Jeter Mountain also has an indoor playground.

If you aren’t familiar with Jeter Mountain, they are an apple orchard near Asheville with what we like to call a country club feel. We can only imagine just how perfect Christmastime would be at the farm! Though they don’t grow Christmas trees on the farm, they will have trees available grown at Boone, NC tree farms.

About Jeter Mountain

Location: 1126 Jeter Mountain Rd, Hendersonville, NC 28739

Dates: They are open for Christmas starting November 22, 2025. This includes November 22 – 23, November 28-30 and December 6-7.

Other info: You don’t have to reserve a tree in advance!

Bear Valley Farm

The general store and Christmas trees at Bear Valley Farm in Western, NC

Bear Valley Farm is another great destination for a Christmas tree in Western North Carolina. It’s located in Glenville, NC, about an hour and twenty minutes from downtown Asheville.

Not only can you choose and cut a Fraser fir (4 feet to 12 feet), but you can also enjoy a tractor ride through their picturesque fields and a visit to their gift shop. Warm up with a hot cocoa, apple cider or coffee by the fire pits. They have complimentary marshmallows available for roasting.

Apart from the Christmas tree fun, be sure to visit their mini donkeys and horse. You’ll also find two mastiffs at Bear Valley. Truly a fun day out for all!

About Bear Valley Farm

Location: 231 Bee Tree Rd | Glenville, NC

Dates: Bear Valley Farm will open on Friday, November 21st. They’ll be open Thursdays – Sundays from 10am to 4pm. They are closed on Thanksgiving, though!

Other info: They have a gift shop, mini donkeys, a horse, 2 mastiffs and over 100 acres of Fraser firs. They also have wagons, coffee, hot chocolate, apple cider, Charlie’s Hot Buns and a fire pit with complimentary marshmallow roasting. Plan to stay a while!
