We love including maps in our guides to show the lay of the land. This one is extra useful because it clearly shows just how close the breweries are to one another. The downtown area is super walkable, so you could easily visit a few (or all!) without a long commute.

Expertly crafted beer in the heart of downtown Asheville

DSSOLVR is one of Asheville’s brewery darlings. Tucked in a small space on Lexington Avenue in the heart of downtown, it’s very convenient if you’re exploring the city.

Don’t let the small storefront fool you. This brewery packs a punch with around 20 beers on tap.

Dssolvr has a ton of IPAs to choose from as well as lagers and dark beer.

Dssolvr has a great courtyard out back to hang out and enjoy a cold one.

Pioneering Asheville brewery with great food

Wicked Weed’s Brew Pub is the original location of Asheville’s famous Wicked Weed Brewery.

Opening its doors in 2012, Wicked Weed helped make Asheville a craft beer hub.

As pioneers in unique and hoppy IPAs, Wicked Weed still has an impressive selection with 25 beers on tap.

In addition to great beer Wicked Weed also has a full-service restaurant with excellent pub fare, burgers and a few entrees.

If you are dining with a group, try the Bavarian platter! It’s a fun way to kick a meal off at Wicked Weed. The platter comes with a giant soft pretzel, kielbasa, bratwurst, sauerkraut, pickles, beer cheese and Lusty Monk mustard.

Wicked Weed is our top pick for a kid-friendly brewery in downtown Asheville. They have outdoor seating and a kids menu– plus, kids eat free on Tuesdays!

Located on the south end of Biltmore Avenue, it’s extremely close to South Slope if you plan to venture to Asheville’s brewing district.

Underground speak-easy style taproom

If you’re looking for one of Asheville’s hidden gem breweries, look no further than One World Brewing in the heart of downtown Asheville.

Located in a speakeasy-style space beneath Farm Burger, you’ll find a quaint and inviting brewpub with live music and pub games.

With 10 of their beers on tap, you’ll have plenty of selection to choose from. Try their Ashevegas Pale Ale or the ESB English Bitter AIe!

You’ll find their entrance tucked in the alleyway between Salsa’s and Farm Burger past the outdoor seating.

Tri-level bar with American and Belgian-style beer and cocktails on the rooftop

Thirsty Monk specializes in American specialty beers and Belgian-style beers.

The atmosphere is relaxed with roll-up doors and seating right on Patton Ave. It’s an especially great spot when the weather is nice!

Thirsty Monk has a fun setup with three themed floors in the building:

  • American-style beers and hard seltzers are on the ground floor
  • Belgian-style beers are in the basement at their Delirium Bar
  • Craft cocktails upstairs at the Top of the Monk rooftop bar

With a ton of beers on tap, there’s something for everyone. And yes, they have a flight!

Chill brewery taproom in the Grove Arcade

Wedge Brewing’s newest taproom in the Grove Arcade is perfect for beer lovers seeking a relaxed atmosphere. Their downtown location boasts both indoor and outdoor seating, perfect for enjoying their extensive selection of beer brewed in the River Arts District.

From IPAs to robust stouts, their tap list caters to diverse palates. While Wedge doesn’t serve food on-site, neighboring restaurants like Baba Nahm, Huli Sue’s, and Burgerworx offer takeout.

For an extra dose of entertainment, pair your visit with a trip to the Pinball Museum located right across the street.

Taproom at Asheville’s S&W Market food hall

Did you know that Highland Brewing, Asheville’s oldest brewery, has a taproom in downtown Asheville? It’s actually in the S&W Market Food Hall, which is one of our favorite places in town!

Highland’s classic high-quality beers make a great addition to the foodie eats at S&W Market. They have a small bar on the ground floor and a larger bar with seating on the mezzanine level overlooking the food hall.

It’s a convenient spot to stop in, unwind and refuel while exploring downtown. You can’t go wrong with their classic Gaelic Ale or an AVL IPA.

While you’re having a drink be sure to grab a bite from Buxton Chicken Palace or Bun Intended, or ice cream from The Hop!

The Highland location at S&W is our second pick for a brewery to take kids downtown. There’s a variety of great food, several places to sit and an ice cream shop!

South Slope Breweries

Just south of Asheville’s downtown core, you’ll find the South Slope Brewing District. As the name suggests, this is an industrial part of town where several breweries are clustered.

Because the South Slope is within walking distance of downtown Asheville we thought they should be mentioned on this list as well. Check out our full guide covering breweries in South Slope for all the details.

The following breweries are covered.

  • Burial Beer Co.
  • Wicked Weed Funkatorium
  • Hi-wire Brewing
  • Asheville Brewing Co.
