Tall John’s is an upscale European restaurant in Montford. They serve classic entrees, sophisticated small plates, and thoughtful veggie sides.
The menu changes seasonally, but they consistently offer a fabulous roast chicken, burger and fries, and some of the best martinis in Asheville.
Tall John’s has an excellent happy hour deal with half-price appetizers from 4pm to 5pm daily.
Outdoor seating is available on the patio.
Laidback spot for Caribbean-inspired fare
Nine Mile is a Caribbean-inspired restaurant in Montford. They offer amazing pasta dishes, fresh seafood, and flavor-packed appetizers. The food has an upscale feel, but the atmosphere is more laid back.
Menu highlights include the Live and Give appetizer with queso, salsa, and hummus, and the Mayfield Falls mahi mahi with a creamy yet somehow dairy-free sauce. Nine Mile has tons of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.
They have three locations around town, but the Montford one is the original. It’s very popular, but definitely worth the wait!

Altamont Deli & Grill is a counter-service sandwich shop located inside the Montford convenience store. They offer classic deli sandwiches, salads, burgers, and breakfast all day.
Don’t miss the excellent potato salad, Cuban sandwich, and Italian sub. They also offer rotating specials which are always delicious!
Prior to Altamont Deli opening here, this space was home to the one and only Montford Deli. They moved to North Asheville in 2023 (but kept the name!)

Little Jumbo is a cozy and inviting cocktail bar in Montford. They regularly host jazz nights, live music, and even dance parties.
They have classic drinks like an Old Fashioned and Manhattan alongside unique options like the Hello Friday with bourbon, bitters, and ginger beer.
In addition to expertly crafted cocktails, they offer wine, beer, and a variety of NA beverages. The food menu is small but well-curated — the smoked trout dip and Hunter’s snack mix are perfect accompaniments to any beverage.

High Five is a great local coffee shop on the outer edge of Montford. They exclusively brew Counter Culture coffee beans and offer a variety of baked goods and light bites to choose from.
Located just off the Reed Creek Greenway, High Five North Asheville is the perfect place to walk or bike to from Montford for a quick caffeine pick-me-up.
There’s plenty of outdoor seating and it’s a fun spot to work outside during warmer months.
