Asheville Locals Love: Sprouted Scribbles

This post is a part of our Asheville Locals Love series, where we chat with AVL locals about their favorite things to eat, see and do in our favorite city.

Our next Asheville Locals Love guest: Travis of Sprouted Scribbles

I am so excited about our next guest for our Asheville Locals Love series: the owner and illustrator behind Sprouted Scribbles– Travis Clement. If you have spotted the amazingly cool Asheville stickers for sale around town, then you are already familiar with his work. And if you aren’t, well, check it out below!

All of his designs are hand-drawn and can be purchased at over 25 shops around the Asheville area and through his Etsy shop. His stickers make great gifts and souvenirs (and they are very easy to pack if visiting!!)

Travis is also a fun Instagram follow, sharing life running a small business set in the backdrop of Asheville’s natural beauty. You’ll see everything from new product launches (like the recently introduced locally printed t-shirts and onesies) to the occasional hike or a cute dog picture. 10/10 good doggo alert, by the way.

I hope you enjoy reading through our interview with Travis below. I had so much fun finding out his favorite spots and already have his recommended key lime pie from Old Europe on my must-eat list.

About the Asheville Locals Love Series

Our Asheville Locals Love series was born out of our passion for supporting all things local. We love sharing the best insider information on where to eat and what to do in Asheville. It has been such a fun way for me (and you!) to ‘meet’ Asheville locals and get their insider take on life in this awesome city.

Featuring Travis Clement of Sprouted Scribbles

I’ve been drawing since I was about 5 years old, and before that I was coloring in coloring books. I went to college for illustration (5 years), worked at Trader Joe’s as a commercial artist (11 years), and I’ve been doing independent commercial art for 7 years now. I grew up in a small farm town in West Michigan, moved to Chicago after college (to begin working at TJ’s), and moved in Western North Carolina in 2013.

And if you didn’t like him already, here are four more fun facts about Travis:

  • His favorite music genre is folk
  • He likes to build things out of wood
  • Maple syrup is one of his favorite smells
  • He likes to hike in the forest (which means you should definitely take his favorite hike advice!)

Alright, onto the questions!

Favorite spot for breakfastCurrently Taco Billy in Asheville, or, when I’m in Black Mountain, it’s definitely Louise’s Kitchen

Go-to place for a quick lunchRoman’s Deli

Best dessert in AshevilleIn my opinion, the best dessert in Asheville is Key Lime Pie from Old Europe… but you can’t really go wrong with any of the pastries in that case.

Go-to coffee shop in AshevilleGo-to is almost always, but not every time, an Iced Mocha..from Dripolator ..but I go to many different coffee shops randomly.

Go-to takeout restaurant in AshevilleRocky’s Hot Chicken Shack

Favorite local shop in AshevilleMTN Merch , and I’ve also gotta mention how supportive Charmed is in consistently helping my small business along.

Favorite hike in/around AshevilleThe Mountains-to-Sea Trail (MST). It’s easy to get to from the parkway, has so many different trailheads, and it’s pretty varied from section to section.

Ideal Saturday morning in AshevilleDo some deliveries and ship stuff out, takeout breakfast from a local restaurant, walk around downtown with my pup before it gets busy, drive out to the parkway and hike a section of the MST, and I’d pick a morning in the spring over the other times of the year.

Favorite Asheville gift to give to non-locals(Aside from my stuff), a box of chocolates from French Broad.
