Family-Friendly Hotels in Downtown Asheville, NC
This guide will first highlight kid-friendly hotels in downtown Asheville because we think it’s an excellent place to stay when traveling as a family.
There are a ton of restaurants and shops downtown to keep you entertained. It’s also a hub for various tours around town, like the trolley tour and the La-Zoom bus tour. They even have a kid comedy tour perfect for 5 to 12 year olds.
The STEM-centric Asheville Museum of Science is also located downtown as well as the Art Museum and even an escape room for your older kids.
Below you’ll find several hotels in downtown Asheville that are excellent for kids.
Aloft Hotel
The Aloft Hotel in downtown Asheville is a great option when visiting Asheville with kids. It’s in the perfect location for exploring and they have a seasonal outdoor pool. It also has a really laid-back, casual vibe, which is really important to us as parents of young kids.
Not only is the Aloft kid-friendly, but it’s also pet-friendly with free stays for pets.
Now downtown Asheville is extremely walkable, so you really can’t go wrong when choosing a location there. This particular property is really close to the Wicked Weed Brewing Pub where you’ll find excellent food and a great outdoor patio. Another nearby place our kids love is Mast General Store. This is the perfect place to grab some outdoor gear, old-fashioned candy that is weighed by the pound and fun finds.
If you are looking for a quick bite near Aloft, head to Mamacita’s Taqueria for awesome tacos, queso and burritos. White Duck Taco is also close by and has a few options for kids.
Aloft is a member of the Marriott hotel group so you can use or earn rewards during your stay.
Renaissance Hotel
Though the Renaissance Hotel isn’t in the middle of the hustle and bustle of downtown Asheville, it’s just a few minutes away. It’s an easy walk from the hotel to the main downtown area. The trolley picks up and drops off at the entrance, so it’s another great option for exploring around town. You’ll need to book trolley tickets in advance for this.
As far as amenities go, they have a year-round indoor junior Olympic pool and whirlpool, a small fitness center and an on-site restaurant. Pets are allowed for an additional fee.
The Renaissance Hotel is a member of the Marriott Hotel group so you can use or earn rewards during your stay.
Windsor Boutique Hotel
If you are looking for some extra space for your family in an upscale environment, you may want to consider a stay at the Windsor.
The four-star suite-only hotel offers luxury home living away from home. Each suite includes separate bedrooms and living room areas complete with a kitchenette.
Located on Broadway Street, Windsor Boutique Hotel is situated in the heart of downtown Asheville. From here you can discover all the dining, breweries, shopping and sights that downtown Asheville has to offer.
Downstairs you will find C&Co Skincare and Spa which can provide spa treatments in-room or at their spa.
Elevation Lofts
Another great option for extra space for your stay is Elevation Lofts. This boutique hotel in downtown Asheville has 6 units on the third floor with historic architectural details. The lofts range in size from two to four bedrooms making them perfect for families and groups traveling together.
The units were all custom designed and renovated in 2021. They have hardwood floors, soaring ceilings and huge windows. Each unit has all amenities you have at home from kitchen to washing and dryer and even dog bowls.
Located on Broadway Street in the heart of Asheville, you’re just steps away from world-class dining and entertainment.
Other Family-Friendly HoteLs Worth Mentioning
Wrong Way River Lodge & Cabins
A stay at the Wrong Way River Lodge & Cabins in West Asheville would definitely score you some cool points with your kids. This is especially true if they are hard-to-impress teenagers.
Located across the street from the French Broad River Greenway in West Asheville, Wrong Way River Lodge offers an offbeat lodging experience. Embracing its unconventional name, this unique property is perfect if you like the idea of camping but don’t actually want to camp.
Wrong Way River Lodge & Cabins
You can’t miss their A-frame cabins as you drive along Amboy Road on the French Broad River. The property is set up to mimic a campground, with individual cabins in place of tents and community areas at The Lodge and The Meadow. But you get the luxuries of a hotel suite with queen beds and private bathrooms.
The Lodge is actually a pretty cool spot even if you aren’t a guest at the property. They have coffee and light bites in the aptly named ‘Canteen.’ They also have some great merchandise and local goods available for purchase.
As far as location goes in the city, you are near everything! The River Arts District is just a few minutes away, and then downtown is just beyond that.
Asheville Glamping
If staying in a dome with a tunnel slide sounds like something your kids would love, look no further than Asheville Glamping! They have two domes with slides that sleep from 6 to 8 guests depending on which is booked. It is such a unique place to stay in Asheville and definitely creates the right foundation for an epic trip.
Asheville Glamping also has two other properties that are family-friendly and worth a mention. First, their safari tent sleeps 5 and not only are kids allowed but it is also dog-friendly. The second one, Hikers Heaven, sleeps 8 and includes the use of a private guest house.
The Safari Tent and Hikers Haven properties do not have a tunnel slide– wanted to point that out in case it’s a deal breaker!
The Omni Grove Park Inn
Did you know that the iconic Omni Grove Park Inn is a pretty family-friendly spot? This is especially true during the holiday season when they have their annual gingerbread competition. Competitors of all ages and from all over the nation submit their works of gingerbread art for the chance to win the grand prize. The hotel is decorated to the brim and your kids will love the Christmas magic.
The staff is very welcoming and accommodating to guests of all ages. We especially love their Junior Chef program which provides younger guests with a tote bag full of goodies like Annie’s Bunnies, an Honest juice box, crayons and an activity book. Around the property, you’ll find a few hiking trails and an outdoor pool.
The Grove Park Inn is also on the trolley line (and kids under 5 ride free!) They also have the Estes-Winn Antique Car Museum in the nearby Grovewood Village.
One thing I will point out is that while there are several restaurants on the property, they are all skewed a bit more toward a…. less rambunctious group. Just something to keep in mind when making your dining plans!
If you are looking for something quick, there’s a coffee shop and gift store where you can grab a few snacks. And the pool has the Cabana Grill and Bar where you can dine poolside. Otherwise, unless you have older kids who are used to more of a fine dining experience, we’d recommend taking ideas from our list of family-friendly restaurants in Asheville.

Grand Bohemian Hotel
If you are looking to wow your kids, consider a stay at the Grand Bohemian in Biltmore Village. It’s a gorgeous Tudor-style hotel located just outside the gates of the Biltmore Estate.
As you walk into the lobby you will feel like you are in an old-world hunting lodge complete with large fireplaces and wood paneling.
We love this property for kids because there are restaurants and shops just at your doorstep. The Trolley also picks up nearby.
While there are excellent dining options at the Grand Bohemian Hotel, they aren’t ideal for younger kids. Our guide to restaurants we take our kids should point you in the right direction for this, though! If you are looking for something nearby, check out Cantina. They have great Mexican food and outdoor seating.
Village Hotel On Biltmore Estate
While there are multiple hotel properties on the Biltmore Estate, we recommend the Village Hotel when visiting the Biltmore with kids. It’s definitely the most approachable and is also just next door to Antler Hill Village, which we consider the most kid-friendly part of the Biltmore. This is where you’ll find the playground and ice cream shop.
The Biltmore Village Inn combines the Southern charm you’d expect with family-friendly hospitality. The inn’s expansive gardens and outdoor spaces provide ample room for children to explore and play. The Biltmore Village Inn is a charming retreat that caters to the needs of families.
As far as dining goes, there are several restaurants on the Biltmore Estate. To dine there, you must have a daytime ticket, annual pass or be a guest of one of their overnight properties. You’ll find everything from a pub to fine dining to a bake shop and more.
Hilton Asheville Biltmore Park
Situated in the vibrant Biltmore Park Town Square, the Hilton Asheville Biltmore Park is an excellent choice for families. The hotel offers spacious rooms and suites, some featuring separate living areas and kitchenettes.
Biltmore Park is an excellent destination for families in Asheville. Not only are there great restaurants for kids, like Luella’s BBQ and Mosaic Cafe, but there’s a Barnes & Noble, a cupcake shop, a spot for frozen yogurt and green space to get some energy out.
Families can take advantage of the hotel’s indoor pool, ideal for swimming and relaxation. There’s also a hotel restaurant, though when traveling with kids we recommend dining at one of the many restaurants in Biltmore Park Town Square.
Nearby attractions for kids include Lake Julian Park (one of our favorite playgrounds in Asheville) and the NC Arboretum. It’s also very close to the airport and Sierra Nevada Brewery.
